the MISSION of Calm & Communicate


Tanya’s mission at Calm & Communicate is to provide evidence-based speech and language therapy services for children and adolescents with various communication and learning challenges. Tanya’s therapy sessions incorporate simple yet effective mindfulness techniques and tools when needed to help her clients’ reach their speech and language therapy goals. Individuals with speech and language disorders often experience academic and social challenges that can lead to embarrassment, frustration, and anxiousness. At Calm & Communicate, the focus is on helping each client enhance their communication skills in a comfortable learning environment using a calm, caring, and compassionate approach.  Treatment is focused on the “whole-child” and is individualized to each client (e.g., age, intervention goals, social-emotional needs, interests, etc.). Family and caregivers are always encouraged to be involved in the therapeutic process, kept informed of progress, and given strategies and techniques to utilize at home to promote carryover. 

Tanya Acquista, M.A., CCC-SLP


Tanya Acquista, M.A., CCC-SLP is a New York State licensed and ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist. She also holds professional certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) as well as being a PROMPT Trained therapist who has completed Level I, Introduction to PROMPT Technique.  She gained extensive experience with diagnosing and treating a variety of speech and language disorders for children and adolescents while working in a number of settings: Early Intervention (birth-3 years of age), elementary school, middle school, and high school.
While working in the school-based settings, she was introduced to the concept of mindfulness and developed a passion for utilizing mindfulness and meditation techniques into her own daily life. She began researching methods to incorporate simple mindfulness and meditation techniques into her speech and language therapy sessions. She has received training from Mindful Schools and completed courses in Mindfulness Fundamentals and Mindful Communication. 
Tanya incorporates simple yet effective mindfulness techniques and activities into her therapy sessions while targeting various communication skills such as speaking with clarity and confidence, listening and understanding information, maintaining attention, and enhancing conversation skills.
